Common questions
How does MovieDuo work?
You and your partner each open the app and tap “Couch”. One of you creates a couch and shares the 6-character code with the other. Then you both swipe through movies. When you both swipe right on the same title, it’s a match and you watch it.
Do I need an account?
No. MovieDuo doesn’t use accounts, sign-in, or passwords. Your couch lives on your device and syncs to your partner via the couch code. There’s nothing to remember and nothing to lose.
What is the AI search?
You can describe the movie you’re in the mood for in plain language — for example, “a dark thriller from the 90s” or “something funny but not romantic” — and the AI returns matching titles. The free tier includes 1 AI search per day. After that, you can watch a short rewarded ad to unlock 2 more, or wait until midnight.
Where does the movie data come from?
Movie titles, posters, summaries, and streaming-availability information are sourced from The Movie Database (TMDB). MovieDuo uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Why am I seeing ads?
MovieDuo is free, with optional rewarded ads to unlock extra AI searches when you reach the daily limit. We don’t show banner ads or interstitials. If you skip the ads, the rest of the app keeps working exactly the same.
How do I delete my data?
Open Settings (gear icon on the Couch tab) → Delete my data. This permanently removes your couches, your nickname, and any matched movies from our servers and your device. Full instructions, including how to request deletion by email, are on our data deletion page.
Why isn’t my partner’s couch showing up?
Make sure you both have the latest version of the app and a working internet connection. Couch codes are 6 characters (letters and digits) and the input is case-insensitive. Double-check that you’re entering it exactly as your partner shared it. Couches that go inactive for 30 days are automatically deleted.
Is my data private?
Yes. We don’t use accounts, don’t collect your name or email, and don’t track you across other apps for advertising (the optional rewarded ad attribution stays in MovieDuo only). Read the full privacy policy and our terms of service.
